Getting Through January

The Christmas break for us is intense with all the family expectations, plus both kids have their birthdays so by the time school returns we have ticked off Christmas, a boy turning 12, New Year and a little girl turning 10 (how did they get so grown up?) And I am pretty shattered!

So whilst I’m almost desperate to get back to work, I’m also having to be gentle on myself and get my energy back up which is tough in this long, dark cold month! The little things seem to get my through the day whilst I wait for daylight and warmth to return.

As the kids are a bit older all my saved for best candles are being used and I love the warm glow they give and it’s a pleasure to strike the match and ignite that wick! I am definitely slow cooking more, sauces with depth and intense flavour simmering endlessly as we have no desire to be anywhere but home.

And truth be told if I can find a season of a show that I can curl up on the sofa with, then January is the time you will find me there. I managed to catch up on one of my favourite shows The Bear, do go find it on Disney+ and check it out.

I love the tension, the quick wit conversations in the almost claustrophobic kitchen environment and then it changes pace and you get real depth and knowledge of the characters - I love Sidney (incredible image below by Frank W Ockenfels) and I adore the cooking!! I bet their pasta sauce is incredible.

What’s getting you through January and if you have any shows you’d recommend please let me know!
