The Cornish Place | A Winter Getaway

We can’t always make time for ourselves when the sun is shining. It can be either too expensive, too busy with life admin or work commitments get in the way.

This was our second visit to The Cornish Place and we loved it even more this time as a break from reality, sinking into comfort and warmth whilst the weather raged outside. I’ve known Andi since our days working in the wedding world, I photographed them and Andi made the most beautiful cakes and when she and her family left London to follow their Cornish dreams, she kindly invited us to stay in exchange for some photos.

Three years have lapsed since our first trip and the space has since evolved; planting has grown in, new cottages have been seamlessly added and Monday is Pizza Making Night in the new bar area.

Intimate weddings are now catered for as well as elopements and family gatherings. And as a subscriber to The Cornish Place’s newletter, excitingly a greenhouse is being planned for later this year that will seat 24 for lunch/dinner and if I know Andi it’s going to be stunning. I can see the images in my mind already!

We stayed in The Dairy, a newly added cottage that contains a double bedroom with bath, a second bedroom with custom made bunk beds, a luxury shower room, and open plan living, dining and kitchen area. All the details have been carefully curated from the bespoke Cornish Place body board, binoculars for bird spotting, to fully fitted kitchen which even has a washing machine. We made the woodstove work for its keep as the weather wasn’t great but we were so toasty and of course raided The Piggery, a communal space where you’ll find Andi’s freshly baked cakes, a freezer full of Moomaid of Zennor ice cream and lots of board games.

And if that wasn’t enough, there’s a welcome hamper bursting with Cornish goods.

From fresh bread from Stones Bakery to Cornish Yarg, to something for the grown ups, organic gin from Loveday Distilling.

As mentioned Pizza Night is on Monday’s - sourdough pizza bases are waiting for you to roll and add your choice of toppings from the generous array on offer. Cooked in an Ooni oven (very smitten with this table top version) the pizza’s were cooked in minutes and tasted delicious. The kids loved it and it gave us a chance to say hello to our holiday neighbours.

Lastly I can’t leave this post without mentioning the hot tub and peaceful beautiful views, yes, I can imagine this is just bliss in the summer but if you have children a hot tub is the most exciting activity regardless of cold, rain or short winter nights. We had two dips and it was a wonderful highlight.

This was a working holiday for me but what makes these kind of collaborations exceptions rather than a rule is that I got to bring the children - for them they got to experience something wonderful and whilst I had my cameras and tripods in tow it’s still a break from reality and to enjoy this really beautiful place. Andi & Adam have put their hearts and souls into The Cornish Place and I will return as just a guest, however I know my camera will still come with me.

I noticed on instagram that they are runnning some January discounts and I can’t recommend escaping here enough to help get through the grime of this month!

This is a long old month, so I’d love to hear if you have any escapes for January planned!
