The Cornish Place | Self Catering Stables in Cornwall
The Cornish Place - Cornwall
We spent most of last week enjoying Cornwall, staying in The Stables, a luxury 3 bedroom self catering cottage in St Austell.
I’ve known owner Andi, for around 10 years, when we were both in the wedding industry, since then she and husband Adam have followed their dream to create a home and self catering accommodation in Cornwall. Renovations and managing to open 2 months ago, amidst a global pandemic and all the extra logistical problems that brings getting the two cottages ready for guests, is an incredible achievement.
We stayed in The Stables - there’s also a two bedroom cottage available - both face into a courtyard that come next year will be alive with all the greenery and planting that has been laid by landscape and garden designer Matt James
There’s a huge communal table (awaiting a time post social distancing), fire pits and a multi purpose room, The Piggery, with it’s huge window that frames the fields and country side beyond. It’s also where the ice cream fridge is, filled with complimentary Moomaid of Zennor ice cream!
Both cottages have their own hot tub, underfloor heating, a woodburner - all very much appreciated as the October weather was suffering from the remnants of passing storms. The kitchen is large, fully fitted with huge fridge / freezer (you can arrange for a supermarket shop to bring your weeks groceries), dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine and all the crockery and kitchen equipment you could need.
The living area is cosy and comfortable, perfect for rainy days, the large smart TV a treat after venturing to the nearby beaches, we visited Portreath and Gwithian. Despite the weather the kids had such fun running in and out of the wild waves and then warming up with flasks of hot chocolate!
We had takeaways from The Atlantic, Rockpool Cafe and Verdant Seafood Bar. Andi has a fantastically comprehensive Things To Do Guide which if times were different we would have eaten at most of the restaurants she suggested.
There were so many lovely touches and attention to detail, the accommodation just has everything you could want and the decor is calming, thoughtful and modern. We loved the partially exposed brick and the textured walls, reminding you of the buildings past. The bathroom and ensuite are well designed with water fall showers and the beds and Egyptian cotton bedlinen feel luxurious and just what you need after a day of exploring.
And there’s also a welcome hamper of Cornish goodies.
We were incredibly lucky to get to stay and return just a few days before the new lockdown measures were announced, The Cornish Place, like all hotels have to close for the month of November but if you are thinking of escaping 2020 for a bit, once things have reopened, I can’t recommend The Cornish Place enough.
Our stay was gifted but all thoughts and opinions my own.
