A London Workshop

My Demo Shot

At the beginning of September, a little nugget of an idea became a reality, running a joint workshop with food photographer Bea Lubas!

We had met and connected over social media, showing mutual appreciation of each other’s work and we finally met about 18 months ago, just to you know, meet in real life?! Bea is a lovely, happy positive person, always sharing tips on photography on Instagram and I asked if she would consider doing a workshop with me.

Fast forward 18 months later and we had created a two day workshop at Kemble House Studios in South West London. The 10 spaces sold out the night we launched and we spent many hours thereafter, pulling together ideas and a structure to create two full days of inspiration. We covered as many topics as we could, from editing, to business discussions to doing live demos and then tasking the attendees to create their own scenes whilst we were both on hand to guide and suggest how to make things better. We talked about light endlessly, how to craft, shape and use the light, how to manipulate it to create the stories and atmosphere that makes great food photography. We answered questions, talked about dream assignments and shared our secret goals.

We had a great group of people, many had traveled from Europe, with one flying in from Canada. It was and always is the highlight to see people have an AHA! moment, when something you say resonates and they suddenly see how they can move their photography forward.

This was one of my goals for 2019, to make this workshop happen, in fact it’s still on a piece of paper, washi taped above this computer. I can finally take it down! Thank you to Bea and everyone who attended for making this a fantastic experience.

I didn’t take many photos as I was so busy talking(!) but my friend Julia from Humphrey and Grace came along for one morning to take some behind the scenes for us. I’ve credited those images below.

Thanks for reading this. x
