CAMPAIGN Tesco Go Cook
I'm sure I don't really have to say, but cooking, photographing food, talking about food is usually all done by me. Not to say Michael doesn't cook or love food chat but he does the ironing and I cook dinner and to me that seems like a brilliant trade as I loathe even opening the ironing board.
So when Tesco got in touch about their Go Cook, exclusively for Tesco brand, I was very excited, the pieces are very sleek, I love the Damascus knives with Japanese steel blades (which do not need sharpening for 5 years) and the rich walnut handles are such a beautiful colour. The pots and pans come in variety of options; hard anodised, stainless steel or forged aluminum with some coming with a 20 year guarantee. But the best bit? The pricing, this is a very affordable brand and with those promises of longevity and durability you are guaranteed to be stocking your kitchen for the long term.
The challenge posed, was to try out a few pieces from Go Cook and create a recipe; however there was a caveat! The person who did the least cooking in the household, had to do the choosing and the cooking! So Michael happily went shopping and came back with the Damascus Utility Knife, a 26cm anodised Frying Pan, the Acacia spoon and a whole heap of fresh ingredients.
Something I apparently fail to make enough of is breakfast, so Michael and his new pan and knife, set about making a one pan breakfast including all the ingredients Michael loves, potato (he's half Irish), chorizo (I'm half Spanish) followed by mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs and some fresh jalapenos. Whilst I did do the styling for the images, Michael did the cooking so I will let him tell you about his experience with the Go Cook utensils.
‘I used to manage restaurants and one thing that was essential was always having a sharp knife, one that glides through whatever you are cutting instead of slowly hacking away. All our knives are pretty blunt plus Cath’s collection are in pastel colours, so this utility knife was incredible. It was pin sharp and made quick and easy work of the potatoes, chorizo and the jalapeno. It looks, feels and cuts like the expensive professional knives we spent a fortune on in my restaurant days.
A good pan, that’s non-stick and has some weight to it, always feels good to use and the Go Cook pan has all those qualities. Just a brush of oil for the mushrooms and sautéing the potatoes and chorizo. The recipe is all cooked in one pan, for speed and less washing up. You cook it mainly on the hob and then finish off under the grill. So it gets hot, but again the pan felt professional and sturdy and post eating, it quick to wash up. I really enjoyed using the pieces from the Go Cook range and was very impressed with the quality.’
